Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey had made quite the name for itself in the last year, highlighting the man who taught Jack Daniel how to distill. Now, that story has come to the big screen. “The Story of Nearest Green” recently premiered in NYC at the Tribeca Film Center.
Directed by David Poag and narrated by xx Jeffrey Wright, the film takes place in the renovated Dan Call farmhouse on the very property where Nathan “Nearest” Green worked in a distillery as head stiller (now known as a master distiller), and where Jack Daniel lived and worked as a chore boy. The house featured in the film, is the same one featured on their bottles. It tells the once lost story and legacy of Green that has now been revived, and highlights the camaraderie and partnership between Green and Daniel.
Wright mingled with guests and spoke to the film. Wright’s relationship with the brand began when he read the same story as Fawn did in The New York Times that started this journey. When he heard about everything she was doing to honor Green and his legacy, he had his people track her down. He began evangelizing the whiskey, so when it was time to choose a narrator, he was an easy choice.
