Bar of the Week: A.L.B.

ALB-Scene

A good hotel bar is a traveler’s best friend. It can provide you with a place to meet locals or other out-of-towners, get the lay of the land over a good cocktail or just wind down after a long day. This week’s feature provides all that and more for folks heading to NYC. Arlo SoHo’s A.L.B. (Arlo Lobby Bar) takes guests on a journey through New York City with a crafted drinks menu that mimics the quintessential subway stops throughout the city.

Led by Arlo Hotels’ Food & Beverage Director Gary Wallach, A.L.B.’s menu features 24 custom cocktails and is sectioned into four distinct neighborhoods of New York City. The menu starts Downtown with the 80s Rock Tee (Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Aged Apple Brandy, Spiced Pear, Raisin, Honey and Angostura Bitters), inspired by the now fashionable neighborhood’s iconic past as the center of New York’s rock n’ roll scene. Inspired by the bright lights of the big city, Midtown’s menu features the Times Square Swizzle (Jack Daniel’s Rye, Hennessy V.S Cognac, Parce 3-Year Rum, Ancho Chile, Pineapple, Mint, Lime). Meanwhile, Uptown pays homage to city’s Ivy League institution via the Columbia Student (Old Forester Bourbon, Amontillado Sherry, Blueberry, Clove, Coconut, Angostura Bitters). In SoHo, Showtime! — seen below — is either in honor of the off-Broadway scene or subway performers (Flor de Caña Rum, Rémy Martin 1738 Cognac, Grand Marnier, Dry Vermouth, Banana, Pomegranate), or maybe both.

Executive Chef Carsten Johansen of Arlo SoHo’s restaurant Harold’s has created a menu of bar food, including Potato Latkes with Crème Fraiche, Agnolotti Bolognese and Lamb Kabobs, equally inspired by the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
