Osprey, a new brand of single malt Scotch whisky, was recently launched by Aceo Spirits.
Inspired by the beauty of Speyside, the inaugural release launched on March 26, to coincide with World Osprey Week, celebrating the bird’s successful return to Scotland. Working in cooperation with the Loch Garten Osprey Centre in the Cairngorms, sales of whisky will help support the raptor’s conservation.
Flowing through Speyside, the River Spey has shaped the region’s natural landscape and have been the main center of Scotland’s whisky production. Since the 1950s, it has also been the home of the fish-hunting hawk. Once extinct in the UK, the osprey’s return stands as one of Scotland’s great conservation success stories.
The Osprey’s inaugural release includes the 10-year-old Braeval, matured in Oloroso sherry casks; and the 15-year-old Glentauchers, matured in bourbon barrels.
“Osprey is a deeply personal project for me. I’ve had a love of birds and wildlife since I was a young lad,” said Edward Odim, Managing Director of Aceo Spirits. “Having spent time as a BBC wildlife producer, I had the privilege of making programmes about ospreys. Creating a whisky that brings together whisky and one of my favourite birds, is immensely rewarding. Osprey celebrates whisky and supports one of Speyside’s most iconic returning species — it’s a tribute, not only to ospreys, but to Speyside and what makes the region so special.”
Osprey 10-year-old Braeval and 15-year-old Glentauchers retail in Europe for £39 and £49, respectively.
