Bar of the Week: Valerie

As warm and inviting as a honey dipped voice of Amy Winehouse, New York City’s Valerie is this week’s pick. It is grand in size and intimate by nature, the recently opened venue in Midtown Manhattan offers a craft cocktail vibe you normally find downtown right in the heart of the city.

According to its owners, the goal was to evoke “the Golden Era of Manhattan” with a timeless drink list, bistro-inspired menu and lively decor. I would say they accomplished that goal. Beverage Director Marshall Vincent crafted a cocktail program that is a balance of classic and signature cocktails.

Our favorite cocktail was the You’re Wondering Now. It includes Old Overholt Rye, Cafe du Monde-infused Cynar, cacao, Old Grandad 100, house-made coffee-pecan & orange bitters (see below). We also recommend Sazerac, Pencilin and Rendezvous (bacon-washed gin, Amaro Montenegro, maple pear puree, lime, cardamom bitters and rum wash). They also serve batched cocktails for two and mocktails featuring Seedlip.

The next time you’re in Times Square, we recommend giving them a try!
