There’s only one proper way to honor a Scotsman… with Scotch whisky! Every year, the Scottish honor Robert Burns, their National Poet, with a holiday dedicated to his words and patriotism
Last week, I spent some time with Arran Whisky to taste their newest expression, a 21 Year Old, and pay homage to one of Scotland’s favorite sons at Highlands NYC. It was an evening of scotch, bagpipes and haggis (I didn’t partake). The ceremonial presentation of Scotland’s National dish, the crowning glory of a classic Burns Night Supper and a Scotch whisky tasting, kicked off the festivities, beginning with the sound of the bagpiper as he led the dish into the room.
The Scotch tasting itself was lead by Arran Global Brand Ambassador David Ferguson, who sampled us on the Arran 10 year, Arran 21 year (due Stateside later this year), Machrie Moor and Robert Burns (seen above) expressions. The 21 Year is the oldest expression of the single malt to date and will have a limited edition release of 9,000 bottles worldwide.
Following the tasting, there was a Scotch-filled happy hour where cocktails were served. My personal favorite was the Robbie Burns. I liked it so much that I decided to share the recipe with you all below!

- 1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
