The Glendronach Celebrates Bicentennial With New Limited Edition

200 years ago, The Glendronach was founded by James Allardice on the Boynsmill Estate in the Scottish Highlands. To mark its 200th anniversary, the distillery has unveiled its Boynsmill House Edition.

Based on Allardice’s vision to unite the character of Highland spirit with the influence of Spanish sherry casks, The Glendronach is continuing dedication to sherry cask maturation with the expression being matured for fourteen years in the distillery’s signature combination of the Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

The Glendronach Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie selected number of Claret red wine casks to complement the whisky’s character. This third cask style pays homage to the wines that would once have graced the tables of Allardice’s celebrated gatherings.

“Created to mark The Glendronach’s 200th anniversary, Boynsmill House Edition captures the timeless charm of our Highland spirit and sherry cask mastery,” says The Glendronach Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie. “In this expression, I find the character that has long made The Glendronach so distinctive: plush ripe malt, Highland toffee, bramble and raisin layered with subtle notes of stone fruit and plum, leading to a mellow, velvety finish. It is a richly rewarding whisky that honours the enduring character of the Valley of the Brambles while celebrating a remarkable moment in our history.”

As part of its bicentennial celebrations, The Glendronach has restored Boynsmill House, returning the historic residence to life. By invitation only, guests will have the rare opportunity to step inside the home where Allardice secured Scotland’s second-ever whisky license and laid the foundations for one of the world’s most richly sherried single malts. Boynsmill House joins The Glendronach’s collection of immersive whisky experiences.

The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition is available worldwide for $124.99.
