Sagemore Spirits Goes Back In The Barrel For New Expressions

Port Finish

Sagamore Spirit recently added two limited edition rye whiskies to its lineup: a Port Finish and the second batch of its Double Oak Straight Rye Whiskey.

At a 101-proof, the Port Finish is a blend of straight rye whiskies, is aged in 60-gallon oak wood barrels then finished in port wine barrels sourced from Portugal and Baltimore-based Boordy Vineyards. The result is a definitively hot and spicy taste with notes of sweet dried cherries.

96-proof Double Oak is back for a second dip into the barrels after its award-winning debut last fall. After spending four years aging in oak barrels, Sagamore’s straight rye is placed into wave stave oak barrels for an additional four months, resulting in a taste rich with caramel and dark vanilla.

“Our talented distillers’ expertise, curiosity and passion for whiskey craft comes through in every new batch they create, and our new Port Finish is case in point,” said Sagamore Spirit President Brian Treacy. “Our growing library of limited time offerings consistently raises the bar when it comes to innovation, creativity and flavor. Sometimes, they’re received so well we just have to bring them back for round two, like with Double Oak, which sold out everywhere last year.”

Like Sagamore’s signature and cask strength rye whiskies, both Port Finish and Double Oak are proofed with limestone-rich spring water taken from nearby Sagamore Farm. This water helps craft a beautifully balanced rye whiskey and aims to inspire global passion for Maryland-style rye, which is slightly sweeter and more versatile than other styles of rye whiskey.

Sagamore Spirit’s Port Finish ($69.99) and Double Oak ($59.99) are now available nationwide.
