Old Hillside Bourbon Company recently a new limited-edition release honoring the Harlem Hellfighters, the first African-American infantry unit to fight in World War I and the longest-serving unit in U.S. military history.
Launched this month, the expression is a 112 proof blended bourbon finished in French oak wine barrels for 191 days, marking the exact number of days the regiment spent on the front lines in France. The barrels themselves originate from the same region where the Hellfighters fought, creating a symbolic connection between place, history, and spirit.
“This partnership isn’t just about whiskey. It’s about honoring a legacy of valor, sacrifice, and resilience,” said Jesse Carpenter, Chief Product Officer of Old Hillside Bourbon. “The Harlem Hellfighters fought longer and harder than nearly any American unit in WWI, and this collaboration allows us to preserve their story while supporting veterans who continue to serve today.”
Only 150 cases will be released across three unique commemorative labels, each paying tribute to the courage, resilience, and cultural legacy of this often-overlooked unit — whose story was further cemented with the awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal in 2025. The labels feature three 369th Infantry Regiment Veterans (Benjamin O. Davis Sr., Henry Johnson and James Europe).
A portion of proceeds will benefit the Whiskey Valor Foundation, supporting veterans and their families through community programs and initiatives.
