Whiskey and wine lovers are both super passionate about their respective drinks of choice. However, Sanctified Spirits recently announced the release of its first limited-edition, bourbon whiskey, Oak & Eden’s Cabernet Steeped, Whiskey & Vine — and it may change a few minds on both sides of the fence.
For the Cabernet Steeped Whiskey & Vine, the Texas-based distiller started with a 2-year-old bourbon. Next, using their patent-pending in-bottle finishing process, they “sanctify” the bourbon with a 5-inch long spiral cut piece of French Oak that has been exposed to fire, in order to extract flavorful botanicals and esters. Finally, to enhance the spiciness of the wood, they rest it in Texas Cabernet Sauvignon for 8 weeks before introducing it to the bottle.
“All of our whiskeys are finished in-bottle with a Spire of wood,” says Joe Giildenzopf, the company’s CEO. “What makes this expression so unique is the Spire of wood is made from French Oak that rested in Texas Cabernet.”
And Oak & Eden has more infused expressions on the way. “In February 2019, we will be releasing a ‘rum infused’ Rye Whiskey, whereby we rest an American Oak spire in a molasses and panela inspired rum prior to using it to finish, in-bottle, our Rye whiskey,” says Giildenzopf.
This small-batch release of Cabernet Steeped, Whiskey & Vine Bourbon is limited. Only 2,400 bottles were made, and each bottle is numbered and signed. Each bottle will retail for $60.
