Cask strength whiskey is nothing new, normally. But when one of Ireland’s most iconic whiskey decides to unveil a barrel proof expression, people take notice.
According to Cheers Online, the brand recently announced the launch of Jameson Bow Street 18 Years Cask Strength, the first cask-strength Jameson to be available globally.
Distilled and matured at its Midleton Distillery, Jameson Bow Street 18 spent time in a collection of bourbon and sherry casks. This blend of pot still and grain Irish whiskeys was then merged and re-casked in first-fill ex-bourbon American oak barrels for a final six to 12 months in the Maturation House at the Jameson Distillery Bow Street.
“With this first ever global launch of a cask strength Jameson, I’m thrilled that Irish whiskey fans around the world can now experience the full intensity of our whiskey or add a few drops of water to enjoy it at their own preferred strength,” says Billy Leighton, master blender at Midleton Distillery.
Jameson Bow Street 18 comes in a bottle with 18 facets, one for each year of maturation. Its wooden presentation box celebrates the traditional pot stills used during the production process. In addition, a copper coin located underneath Jameson Bow Street 18 bottles provides Jameson fans with access to an exclusive digital experience where they can delve deeper into the story of the whiskey.
Jameson 18 Years, first released 15 years ago, will remain in the Jameson family. Jameson Bow Street 18 Years Cask Strength will be available in 20 markets beginning in July for the about $292 per bottle.
