There are whiskey lovers and then there is this…
Recently, Skinner Auctioneers sold a 57-year-old bottle of Macallan single malt scotch preserved in a one-of-a-kind Lalique crystal decanter for $61,500.
Bottled in 2009 from two separate casks — a 1950 American oak sherry butt and a Spanish oak sherry butt — to call this scotch limited-edition would be an understatement. The classic dried fruits and spice notes are reminiscent of The Macallan House style of the 1950s.
The extravagant bottle (seen above) was one of over 1,000 lots, who’s dates spanned from the 1800s to modern day, sold in a Fine Wines & Spirits online auction for a total gross of $757,508.
We definitely need to rethink our investments.
