Distillery of Modern Art (DoMA) has just released its inaugural Bourbon Whiskey and Rye Whiskey.
The Georgia distillery’s whiskeys share the same grain sources, each chosen for their contribution to the overall flavor profile. Non-GMO white corn brings a slightly sweeter taste and creates unique flavor profiles as the whiskey matures. DoMA uses malted barley, sourced from Riverbend Malt in Asheville, NC chosen specifically for the grassy, bready, and honey-caramel character it adds to the blend. And finally, the most important ingredient in DoMA’s Rye Whiskey variety – is the Wren’s Abruzzi Rye.
“For our rye, we’ve selected Wren’s Abruzzi Rye, an Italian varietal that thrives in the Southeast.,” said Distillery of Modern Art Head Distiller Matt Greif. “Unlike most rye, grown in the northeast and Canada, this locally grown grain offers a distinctive advantage: it has lower levels of furfural. This gives the whiskey its characteristic spice, black pepper and clove notes. By carefully selecting both the rye grain and yeast, we control the spice profile.”
Aged in new, white American oak barrels, DoMA’s Bourbon Whiskey comes in at 90 proof, while its Rye Whiskey comes in at 100 proof.
“This whiskey release is the culmination of five years of passion, dedication, and craftsmanship – a truly meticulous journey,” says Seth Watson, Distillery of Modern Aart Founder and CEO. “I wanted to create a whiskey that showcases what a great American bourbon looks like, to me. Our team took the time and care to create a Bourbon Whiskey and Rye Whiskey that embodies the art of the spirit and brings people together through a new experience.”
These new bottles from DoMA cement the team’s belief that the South, and particularly Georgia, has the ability through terroir, access to ingredients, and climate, to produce some of America’s best spirits. The two newest additions to the current lineup of five premium craft spirits, including 2024’s Gin of the Year from Tales of Cocktail.
DoMA’s Bourbon Whiskey and Rye Whiskey are available for $49.99.
