Dead Rabbit’s Guide To A Proper St. Patrick’s Day

Dead-Rabbit-Sean-Muldoon-Jack-McGarry

Want to make sure you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day the right way? We do! That’s why we went to Dead Rabbit’s owners Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry to ask what’s the proper way to do so.

The Whiskey Lifestyle: What are the must haves for a successful St. Patrick’s Day event?
Sean Muldroon: People… customers. Tonnes of Guinness because that’s what you’re going to sell. You can never have too much Guinness on St Pat’s because that’s what everyone is going to order. Copious amounts of Irish Whiskey, we’re big fans of Bushmills Original. Don’t think too much about cocktails because people won’t order them. An Irish Whiskey highball, shots, Guinness, Irish Coffee. Live music, good food.

TWL: What are two other Irish Whiskey cocktail recommendations for those who may not be fans of Irish Coffee?
Jack McGarry: The Custom Maid – super accessible for anyone who drinks vodka, gin, white spirits and likes light and refreshing drinks. and Thunderbolt – great for anyone who likes whiskey, old fashioned, stirred drinks.

TWL: What’s your favorite Irish toast?
SM: “May you never lie, steal, cheat or drink. But if you must lie, lie in each other arms. If you must steal, steal kisses. If you must cheat, cheat death. If you must drink, drink with us. Your friends.”

TWL: What do you think about the way we celebrate the holiday stateside?
JM: It’s very different to how we celebrate it at home. In Ireland it’s more community and family orientated. In the US it’s more of a drinking session. We try make it authentic at The Dead Rabbit, focusing on whiskey, beer, craic, music, food.

TWL: What’s the worse St. Patrick’s Day stereotype?
