Catoctin Creek Distilling Co. recently released its Rabble Rouser Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey.
Distilled from 100% rye, aged for four years, and bottled at 100 proof, Rabble Rouser is Catoctin Creek’s most sought after limited annual release. This is the last release of this line aged in Catoctin Creek’s original 30-gallon barrels. They were aged in 30-gallon barrels because, back in the day, that’s all that Chief Distiller Becky Harris could carry when it was just her handling the distilling. They have now shifted to 53-gallon barrels.
It differs from its cousin, Roundstone Rye, in that it is distilled at a lower proof. “Where Roundstone Rye is sort of restrained and elegant,” say Scott Harris, Founder of Catoctin Creek Distilling Co. “Rabble Rouser is more unruly and vivacious.”
The Harrises celebrated 14 years of the distillery by releasing this expression on February 14 – not only Valentine’s Day, but the day they founded the distillery.
